Fishing lines and nets are made of a continuous filamentary or staple yarn produced at least in part from a linear high polymer of propylene containing 60-98% of crystalline polymer. The propylene polymer yarns may be prepared by extruding the molten polymer into a cooling medium, or a solution of the polymer into a coagulating medium, quenching in water at 10 DEG C., stretching the yarns within ratios of from 1:3 to 1:10, and stabilizing them between 125 and 145 DEG C. In the manufacture of the fishing lines, the ends of the yarn fibres are tapered mechanically. In the manufacture of nets the yarns may be hand-or machine-knotted. The yarns may contain colouring pigments, inert fillers, or modifying agents. Specification 817,125 also is referred to.
