The mechanism has a toothed rack (13) displaced in a plane parallel to a movement and carrying a cursor (12) indicating a power reserve of a mechanical watch. A sliding pinion (16), a set of wheels (18, 20, 24, 25), mobiles (19, 23) and fingers (21, 26) control displacement of the toothed rack. The cursor is disposed at a periphery of the movement in order to be visible in a window housed in a middle of the watch.
