AN EFFICIENT DISTRIBUTION AND AERATION SYSTEM FOR AN ULTRA-JET BURNER FOR USE IN A DOMESTIC BUILT-IN HOBS IS DISCLOSED. THE BURNER SYSTEM COMPRISES A GAS VALVE, AN ALUMINIUM FEED PIPE (20), A BURNER JOINT CONNECTOR (21) WITH AN INNER (22) AND AN OUTER (32) INJECTORS, TWO SEPARATE VENTURI PIPES 25 AND 35, AN ALUMINIUM BURNER BODY 26, 36, A BRASS BURNER CASING 28, 38 AND A BRASS CAP 27, 37. THE PRIMARY AIR NEEDED FOR THE FUEL PRIOR TO THE VENTURI PIPES IS DRAWN AROUND THE OUTLET OF THE INJECTORS WITHIN THE BASE OF THE HOB WHILE THE SECONDARY AIR WHICH SUSTAINS THE INNER FLAMES IS EFFICIENTLY ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH A VENTILATION PROFILE (80) FORMED ON THE WORK TOP. WITHOUT SACRIFICING THE SPILLAGE CAPABILITY OF THE BURNER, THIS "LOCALISED" ARCHITECTURE ENABLES THE BURNER COMBUSTION TO BE MORE EFFICIENT AND AVOIDS THE "BACK DRAFT" EFFECT THAT MIGHT BE CAUSED BY MAKING VENTING HOLES AT THE BOTTOM ENCLOSURE OF THE HOB.FURTHERMORE, THE ALUMINIUM AND BRASS MATERIAL USED FOR THE BURNER BODY AND CASING ARE NOT ONLY CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING HIGH THERMAL GRADIENT DURING OPERATION, BUT EFFECTIVELY PREVENT THE OCCURRENCE OF CORROSION.
