The seat has a base, and a backrest that includes, on its rear side, a mechanism (10) i.e. a hinge, for positioning a movable shelf in rotation around a transversal axis (XX`). The mechanism immobilizes the shelf in a set of predefined angular functional positions. The base has an indexer cylinder (40) permitting to assure simultaneously the rotation of the shelf as well as its immobilization in the angular functional positions. Ball shaped pistons (16) and springs (18) are received in cavities (14) formed in the body of the shelf.
