Arrays of microparticles and methods of preparation thereof

A method for producing biochips comprises patterning a substrate having at least one surface to form a plurality of biochip regions by inscribing the substrate between the biochip regions. Bead arrays have many differently optically encoded beads having biomolecules attached thereto are assembled on a surface of the substrate within several of the biochips regions. The encoding identifies the biomolecules attached to the beads. This assembling may include encoding the biochips by the display of a decodable tag. The substrate is singulated along at least some of the inscriptions to form a plurality of individual biochips with assembled bead arrays thereon.
