912,969. Photographic colour materials. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Sept. 19, 1960 [Sept. 30, 1959], No. 32147/60. Class 98 (2). A photographic colour coupler containing a group rendering it fast to diffusion and at least one water-solubilizing group is incorporated in a gelatin silver halide emulsion by dissolving it in dimethyl sulphoxide, diluting the solution thus obtained with water (which may contain a surface active agent) and adding it to the emulsion. Alternatively, the solution of the coupler in dimethyl sulphoxide may be dissolved in an aqueous solution of a watersoluble colloid and then mixed with a melted gelatino silver halide emulsion. The colour coupler is preferably a 5-sulpho- or 5-carboxybenzimidazole having in the 1-position an alkyl group of at least 10 carbon atoms and being connected in the 2-position to the coupling portion of the molecule which contains a phenolic hydroxyl or reactive methylene group. In Example II, the surface active agent used is a reaction product of ethylene oxide with 2,6,8- trimethylnonanol-4. Specifications 644,863, 659,459, 701,545 and U.S.A. Specifications 1,055,155, 1,970,578, 2,118,059, 2,186,849, 2,240,476, 2,545,687, 2,581,050 and 2,768,894 are referred to. |
