PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool control device that can facilitate an operator's data backup and prevent an inadvertent backup of damaged data. SOLUTION: A storage medium drive means 7 removably loads a portable storage medium 6 into a body 5 equipped with an arithmetic control part 3 and a data storage means 4. A loading detection means 10 detects the loading of the portable storage medium 6 in the storage medium drive means 7, and a check means 11 accesses the portable storage medium 6 in response to the loading detection signal to determine whether the portable storage medium 6 satisfies a predetermined backup start condition.
