PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide systems and methods for elliptic curve point octupling for weighted projective coordinates as techniques to reduce computational costs of exponentiation where exponentiation is commonly used in public-key cryptography to calculate a scalar multiple n of points P on an elliptic curve, but operations are computationally intensive and computational costs are high since n is a very large integer. SOLUTION: In one aspect, a weighted projective point P on an elliptic curve is identified. 8P is computed from P independent of repeated doubling operations using fewer field multiplications (elliptic curve point octupling algorithm).
