PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display apparatus designed such that even in the case where an adhesive is used to fix a light composing sections and a light modulating section, displacement of a pixel of each light valve of the light modulating section after fixed can be reduced. SOLUTION: The projection type display apparatus includes: a light decomposing section that decomposes light from a light source into a plurality of color components; the light modulating section having light valves (19R etc.) that modulate light rays of the respective color components, into which the light is decomposed by the color decomposing section; the color composing sections (17R) for composing light rays of the color components modulated by the corresponding valves; and joining member 27 used to fix the light modulating section and the color composing sections and having a first plane face 7b joined to the light modulating section (plane part 6b) and a second plane face 7j joined to the color composing section (plane part 4j), the first plane face and the second plane face forming an angle that is almost right angle.
