PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve dewatering and drying efficiency through effective discharge of vapor from water in cakes with the use of heating plates. SOLUTION: A filter press apparatus with a drying function is provided with filtration plates and heating plates that are disposed alternately and with the filtration chambers each of which is formed between each pair of the filtration plate and the heating plate facing each other via filtration cloth. The apparatus has a compressing mechanism by which slurry pressed into each filtration chamber is compressed through swelling of a diaphragm, so as to dewater the slurry by pressurization, so that the apparatus is capable of drying cakes dewatered within the filtration chambers while heating the cakes with the use of the heating plates. Simultaneously with injection of heating medium to the heating plates for evaporation of water in cakes, compressed water or air is caused to flow into the diaphragms of the filtration plates, so that the relevant temperature decreases to be lower than the boiling point of vapor evaporated from water in the cakes.
