PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alicyclic diamine compound useful as a raw material for a polyimide, a polyamide, an epoxy resin or the like for an electronic material and an optical material; and to provide a method for inexpensively and readily producing the alicyclic diamine compound in good yield. SOLUTION: The alicyclic diamine compound represented by general formula (3) is produced by hydrogenating an aromatic diamine compound represented by general formula (2) in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst or the like in an ether-based solvent in the coexistence of an alkali metal hydroxide and/or an alkaline earth metal hydroxide.
