PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hoist machine of an elevator capable of improving heat emission efficiency without spoiling watertightness in a simple structure. SOLUTION: This hoist machine 1 of the elevator is set in a pit 2 formed on a bottom part of an elevator shaft and is furnished with a motor 3 to drive a sheave around which a rope to elevate a passenger cage is wrapped, a brake 4 to brake this motor 3 and a brake cover 5 to prevent flooding by covering this brake; the brake cover 5 is provided with a plurality of ducts 6, 7 downward breeders of which are respectively arranged on the side of the pit 2 and the one breeder 6a is constituted to be arranged at a height position different from the other breeder 7a.
