PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device capable of easily and certainly setting a document, restraining cost increase of the device itself and realizing miniaturization of the device itself. SOLUTION: This paper feeding device is furnished with a paper feeding tray 22, an inlet chute part 29 to guide the document to a carrier passage 26 from the paper feeding tray 22, an inlet roller 34 to deliver the document on the paper feeding tray 22 to the carrier passage 26, an inlet nipping piece 35 elastically energized to make contact with a guide surface in the neighborhood of the inlet roller 34, a separation roller 36 arranged at a position separated in the paper feeding direction from the inlet roller 34, a separation nipping piece 37 elastically energized to make contact with the separation roller 36, a driving mechanism to input torque to the separation roller 36, a driving transmission mechanism 63 having a one-round clutch 65 to allow idling of the inlet roller 34 in a predetermined range and to transmit rotation of the separation roller 36 to the inlet roller 34 and a torsion coil spring 69 to elastically energize the inlet roller 34 to an end in the paper feeding opposite direction in an idling range allowed by the one-round clutch 65.
