PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of generating a lighting state close to a direct-current light source while supplying a discharge lamp with energy having a frequency component. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp is provided with three electrodes, between each two of which discharge can be made. At a maximum power output of the discharge lamp, voltage is impressed on the electrode terminals so that at least one among the three inter-electrode-terminal voltages VeAB, VeBC, and VeCA is to be a region of discharge.
