PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultra high-pressure discharge lamp unit which can meet a request for a longer lifetime. SOLUTION: An ultra high-pressure discharge lamp unit is composed of a reflector 14 having a concave reflector surface 14a and an ultra high-pressure discharge lamp 12 having a sealed container 26 consisting of an arc tube 22 and a sealing part 24 fixed on the both ends of the tube. The sealing part 24 placed in front of the arc tube 22 is fixed with a shielding member 18 which shields a reflecting light A emitted from optical units 16 and 20 placed in front of the ultra high-pressure discharge lamp 12. As as result, the reflecting light emitted from the optical units 16 and 20 to the arc tube 22 is shielded by a shielding member 18, and a temperature rise of the ultra high-pressure discharge lamp 12 is controlled and the lifetime of the ultra high-pressure discharge lamp 12 can be extended.
