PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a polyallylate that gives a molded article much superior in heat resistance to that of the conventional polyallylate using a bisphenol A as a raw material and to provide a polyarylate. SOLUTION: The process for producing the polyallylate comprises polymerizing (a) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its derivative and (b) a dihydroxy compound represented by formula (1) [wherein Ar<SB>1</SB>to Ar<SB>4</SB>are each independently an aromatic skeleton; R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>4</SB>are each independently an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, a phenyl group, an amino group or a halogen atom; R<SB>5</SB>to R<SB>12</SB>are each independently a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a phenyl group; X is a direct bond, an alkylene chain, an oxyalkylene chain, a carbonyl group, an ether bond, a thioether bond or a sulfonyl group; and n<SB>1</SB>to n<SB>4</SB>denote an average value of the repeating number, which are each independently a number of 0-10 and satisfy the relationship: 0.1≤(n<SB>1</SB>+n<SB>2</SB>+n<SB>3</SB>+n<SB>4</SB>)≤10].
