PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition suitable for a tread rubber for a high-performance pneumatic tire that exhibits good steering stability and fracture resistance and is remarkably enhanced in abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: The rubber composition comprises 100 pts.mass of a matrix component, comprised of 60 to 95 pts.mass of a styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber (A) having a weight-average molecular weight of 3.0×10<SP>5</SP>to 4.0×10<SP>6</SP>in terms of polystyrene as measured by the gel permeation chromatography and 5 to 40 pts.mass of a polybutadiene rubber (B) having a weight-average molecular weight of at least 4.0×10<SP>5</SP>in terms of polystyrene as measured by the gel permeation chromatography and a cis-linkage content of at least 90%, and, incorporated therewith, 10 to 200 pts.mass of a hydrogenated styrene-butadiene copolymer (C) having a weight-average molecular weight of 5.0×10<SP>3</SP>to 2.0×10<SP>5</SP>in terms of polystyrene as measured by the gel permeation chromatography and a bound styrene content of 25 to 70 mass%, and having at least 20% of the double bonds in the butadiene portion hydrogenated.
