PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetoresistance effect type head which operates stably by stabilizing a magnetizing direction of magnetic domain control layers to fix a bias magnetic field for acting on the free layer of a magnetoresistance effect film to suppress occurrence of noise such as Barkhausen noise. SOLUTION: The magnetoresistance effect type head of a CPP type is provided with a magnetoresistance effect element 10, a lower electrode layer 12 and an upper electrode layer 14 arranged sandwiching the magnetoresistance effect element in a thickness direction, and the magnetic domain control layers 16a and 16b which are arranged on the lateral sides of the magnetoresistance effect element 10 through insulation films 18a and 18b to apply a bias magnetic field controlling the magnetic domain of the free layer provided at the magnetoresistance effect element 10. Laminated on the magnetic domain control layers 16a and 16b, antiferromagnetic layers 20a and 20b which fix the bias magnetic fields of the magnetic domain control layers are provided.
