PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cost-efficient image forming apparatus capable of preventing color slippage, due to changes in the carrying speeds of an intermediate transfer belt and a drive roller. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus for forming an image on an intermediate transfer belt 31, by successively transferring a plurality of images formed on a photoreceptor 11 so that these images are superposed on the intermediate transfer belt 31 and then transferring the transfer image to recording paper to form the image; the intermediate transfer belt is constituted so that frictional force, with respect to thickness uneveness distribution, formed on the contact surface of the drive roller 32 for carrying the intermediate transfer belt 31, is reduced on the thick portion of the intermediate transfer belt 31 thickness and the frictional force is increased in the thin portion of the belt thickness; and crimp work for changing frictional force against the drive roller 32 is formed on the contact surface of the intermediate transfer belt 31 with the drive roller 32.
