PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide lyrics data which are common to various kinds of portable music players whose display units and fonts are different in specifications, and to display lyrics in easy-to-see states on various kinds of player sides under control to match the specifications of the display units and fonts. SOLUTION: Lyrics data is constituted of the permutation of a character string divided into line blocks which are indefinite in number of characters. A display means has a lyrics display area where at least one line of the character string is displayed. In 1st processing, display of a line block is specified according to the permutation. In 2nd processing, a character string including the starting character of the display-specified line block is displayed in one line in the lyrics display area and it is determined whether the characters in the block are all displayed in the lyrics display area; when not, 3rd processing is carried out.
