<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus that enables observers at different observing positions to view different images with high definition, without decreasing the brightness of an image viewed by each observer. <P>SOLUTION: The image display apparatus 1 includes: a display panel 2 for displaying an image; a back light 5 for irradiating the display panel 2 with light; a polarization control liquid crystal panel 7 by which light from the back light 5 is split into a light beam having a first polarization axis and a light beam having a second polarization axis different from the first polarization axis; and a lenticular lens 8 including a lens section 8a formed such that light beams split by the polarization control liquid crystal panel 7 to have different polarization axes travel in respective prescribed directions, and formed so as to extend in a direction (direction F in FIG. 1) substantially perpendicular to a line segment connecting the left and the right eyes 10a and 10b of an observer 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
