<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the utilization efficiency of liquid HC with respect to the reduction of NO<SB>x</SB>to achieve the efficient reductive purification of NO<SB>x</SB>from a low temperature region. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust gas purifying device is equipped with an HC adding means 4 for adding liquid HC to the exhaust gas, a first catalyst 2, which has a catalytic layer containing an HC adsorbent, a solid ultrastrong acid and a noble metal and is arranged on the downstream side of the HC adding means 4 and the second catalyst, which has a catalytic layer containing a noble metal and an NO<SB>x</SB>occluding material and is arranged on the downstream side of the first catalyst 2. The liquid HC is evaporated accompanying the temperature rise due to the oxidation reaction on the first catalyst 2 to be adsorbed on the HC adsorbent and the evaporated HC is desorbed from the HC adsorbent accompanying a rise in temperature. The desorbed HC is gradually cracked on the first catalyst 2 by the solid ultrastorong acid to become lower HC and an exhaust gas of a rich atmosphere containing much lower HC having high reductive activity flows in the second catalyst 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
