PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clearly and surely show the completion of the backup of data transmitted from a recording/reproducing device to a recording device to the user, without using a display means installed in the recording device, or installing a display means for showing the completion of the backup of data in the recording device. SOLUTION: This recording device is connected communicatively to a recording/reproducing device for recording and reproducing image data, and configured to backup the data recorded in the recording medium of the recording/reproducing device. The recording device determines the file format of an image file, related to an image showing the completion of backup, based on the file format of the backed-up image data. Then, the recording device generates the image file and transmits it to the recording/reproducing device. The image file is recorded in the recording means of the recording/reproducing device, and instructions for reproducing the image file are transmitted, from the recording device to the recording/reproducing device.
