PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane filtration apparatus that can wash the whole of the membrane face and can realize good operation for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The membrane filtration apparatus comprises a treatment tank 31, a membrane unit 50 immersed in the treatment tank 31 and formed by stacking flat membrane elements onto top of each other, a cylindrical skirt part 71 provided at the bottom of the membrane unit 50, an aeration equipment 61 disposed below the skirt part 71 for jetting gas, and partitions 72, 73, which are disposed in the direction of lamination of the membrane element, define partition chambers 74 to 76 within the skirt part 71, and are disposed so that the upper end is disposed in close contact with the bottom of the membrane unit 50 to avoid flow of bubbles in communication among the partition chambers 74 to 76. Gas jetted by the aeration equipment 61 becomes bubbles which are supplied to the partition chambers 74 to 76 and ascend the inside of the partition chambers 74 to 76, whereby ascending power of the bubbles upon the entry into gaps between the membranes can be increased.
