<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for manufacturing a silicon carbide powder at a low cost, wherein the silicon carbide powder contains few impurities, shows a sharp particle size distribution and is excellent in moldability. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for preparing the silicon carbide powder through a silica reduction method, a composite particle powder is used as a starting material, wherein the composite particle powder comprises a silica particle powder whose surface is coated with a surface modifier, and a carbon powder is further deposited onto the surface of the surface modifier-coated silica particle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
