PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an output image having high resolution while suppressing both roughness and interference even in the case that an area with resolution desired to be emphasized and an area with graininess desired to be emphasized are mixed. SOLUTION: A third feature quantity calculating means 14 calculates a third feature quantity on the basis of a first feature quantity (for example, edge degree in each pixel under consideration) of a pixel under consideration calculated by a first feature quantity calculating means 11 from image data shown by an inputted first color system and a second feature quantity (for example, edge degree in each pixel under consideration) of the pixel under consideration calculated by a second feature quantity calculating means 13 from image data shown by a second color system converted by a color converting means 12. Then, halftone processing in a halftone processing means 15 judges whether the pixel under consideration emphasizes resolution or graininess on the basis of the third feature quantity and quantizes the pixel under consideration, in accordance with the judgment.
