PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing metal fine particles contained in an aromatic polybenzimidazole resin powder by a simple method; and to provide the aromatic polybenzimidazole resin powder obtained by the method. SOLUTION: The aromatic polybenzimidazole resin powder is a resin powder passing through 100 mesh sieve, and the number of the contained metal fine particles is≤10 per plane area of 0.5 g resin powder arranged so as to have 30 mm diameter. The method for producing the powder comprises a step for sieving the aromatic polybenzimidazole resin powder by a 100 mesh sieve, and a step for treating the powder sieved and passed through the 100 mesh sieve with at least one solution selected from an acid solution and a chelate solution.
