PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character input device allowing accurately inputting characters without an inputting person's gazing at a screen. SOLUTION: This device comprises a sound database 1 into which readings corresponding to a plurality of characters are registered, a key which is manually operated, a key input part 3 for inputting operation characters corresponding to pushing down of the key 2, a display 4 which displays the operation characters in response to an output of the key input part 3, a sound processing part 5 which retrieves the readings of the operation characters from the sound database 1 and sound-synthesizes and outputs the readings, a loudspeaker 6 which outputs the sound-synthesized readings, and a control part 7 which displays the operation characters on the display 4 and outputs the readings of the operation characters from the loudspeaker 6 via the sound processing part 5.
