PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein it is difficult to manually perform the efficient preparation of a data backup list for minimizing the total number of use of recording media, when the number of file sets that is the object of backup or the necessary number of recording media is large, and the sizes of the file sets being the object of backup are non-uniform. SOLUTION: A data backup method is provided to generate a backup list by acquiring the sizes of a plurality of filesets, prior to the execution of data backup, and making a user instruct the recording capacity of the plurality of recording media, and calculating which fileset is to be backed up to which backup recording medium, in order to minimize the number of the backup recording media as a whole.
