The center pillar (5) is only connected to the lower part and the upper part (1) of the vehicle body. The upper part of the center pillar is connected to a roof cross-member (14) of the upper part of the vehicle body. The center pillar is preferably manufactured independently of the side wall (2) of the body, e.g. using a hydroforming process, or by deep drawing.
