<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface mounter which detects a tape feeder 1 in non-contact manner without using radio. <P>SOLUTION: A permanent magnet 11 is provided at a position corresponding to the feeder fitting part 4 in the respective tape feeder 1. A Hall element 22 is provided at a opposite position to the permanent magnet 11 in the feeder fitting part 4. A judgement means 25 is provided on the side of the feeder fitting part 4 and judges presence or absence of the tape feeder 1 according to the detection result of the Hall element 22.
