<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyurethane material useful in a coating composition that can and may be applied on a substrate by an electrodeposition coating method and a non-electrodeposition coating method. <P>SOLUTION: The polyurethane material, the coating prepared therefrom and the method for manufacturing these are provided. An anionic self-crosslinkable polyurethane material has a weight-average molecular weight of less than 15,000 gram per mole and, when cured, gives a toughness of at least 20 MPa according to the TOUGHNESS TEST METHOD at 25°C.
