PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique where grooving is performed to the outer surface of the barrel part in a roll shaft material, thus stress caused by cubic expansion owing to carburizing caused on the surface is relaxed, and bent-deformed quantity to the roll shaft direction is remarkably reduced. SOLUTION: The carbon roll is a sleeve roll obtained by covering the outer circumference of a roll shaft with a carbon sleeve in which at least one end part is fixed with the roll shaft. The outer surface of the barrel part in the roll shaft material is provided with a plurality of ring-shaped recessed grooves for stress relaxation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
