PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emulsion composition to form a coating free from blistering, cracking and liquid dripping during drying, and an aqueous coating composition using the emulsion composition, more particularly, the emulsion composition capable of uniformly drying without forming cracks, blisters and the like even when the drying of the coating material is carried out to form a thick coating and drying at a high temperature, and also capable of preventing liquid dripping, even when it is applied onto a vertical face or uneven face and then is dried at a high-temperature, and a water-based coating composition using this emulsion composition. SOLUTION: The emulsion composition contains a nonionic compound being obtained by block and/or random addition of ethylene oxide and a≥3C alkylene oxide to a≤18C aliphatic alcohol and having a 1% aqueous solution cloud point of≤80°C and a molecular weight of 500 or more, and a synthetic resin.
