PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift lever device capable of absorbing impact energy working on a shift lever. SOLUTION: A knob 68 is moved in the working direction of impact force as a cylinder part 54 of a cover knob 52 causes brittle fracture and absorbs the impact energy while rupturing the knob 68 with a slit 66 as its border when the impact force (Fh) roughly in the horizontal direction works on the knob 68 at the time of vehicle quick deceleration, etc. Additionally, the knob 68 never flies away to an unexpected place as it is connected to the shift lever 16 with its skin 42.
