PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a three-dimensional shape measuring instrument and an artificial limb socket shape designing apparatus for providing a socket which can comfortably be used by an artificial limb user by measuring not only the external shape of a human body but also internal tissues such as bones, muscles, fat shapes together with ultrasonic waves, and considering loading acting on the periphery of a stump part in the case of using the artificial limb. SOLUTION: The three-dimensional shape measuring instrument is provided with: a means for sending the ultrasonic waves; a means for detecting reflected waves of the ultrasonic waves; a means for deciding the position of the means for sending the ultrasonic waves and the means for detecting reflected waves of the ultrasonic; a means for analyzing detected data in order to obtain a boundary between different materials of a patient constituted of a plurality of materials; and a means for preparing a finite element model from an analyzed result.
