PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for watermarking that eliminates the need to use unnecessary additional redundant bits for error correction by making good use of a usable time period as much as possible for transmitting WM. SOLUTION: An encoding method includes: (a) a step of encoding payload data to generate evolving ID data items for respective symbols; (b) a step of inspecting whether a current symbol among the symbols can accurately be decoded by a suitable decoder and watermarking the current symbol when the result is true or skipping the current symbol when not true; and (c) a step of embedding a current frame in the audio or video signal and outputting it after the processing of the current frame is completed, and carrying on the processing with the next frame.
