PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially safely and efficiently producing thiophenediisocyanate or furandiisocyanate. SOLUTION: The method for producing a diisocyanate comprises (a) a step for reacting thiophenedicarboxylic acid or furandicarboxylic acid with a halogenation agent in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent to afford an aromatic hydrocarbon solution of a thiophenedicarboxylic acid halide or a furandicarboxylic acid halide, (b) a step for reacting an azide with the thiophenedicarboxylic acid halide or the furandicarboxylic acid halide by adding a polar solvent to the aromatic hydrocarbon solution of the halide, and then removing the polar solvent by washing with water to afford an aromatic hydrocarbon solution of thiophenedicarboxylic acid azide or furandicarboxylic acid azide, and (c) a step for heating the aromatic hydrocarbon solution of the thiophenedicarboxylic acid azide or the furandicarboxylic acid azide to afford the objective thiophenediisocyanate or furandiisocyanate.
