PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a dicarboxylic acid derivative containing small amounts of metals and capable of being used as a raw material of a photosensitive resin for an electronic photography by using an industrial grade raw material. SOLUTION: This method for producing the dicarboxylic acid derivative by using a dicarboxylic acid and a 1-hydroxybenzotriazole in the presence of an organic solvent and also using dicyclohexylcarbodiimide as a condensing agent is provided by precipitating the dicarboxylic acid derivative by bringing reaction solution dissolving the dicarboxylic acid derivative in contact with an aqueous acid solution, or bringing the organic solvent solution of once isolated dicarboxylic acid derivative with the aqueous acid solution, and isolating.
