<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device capable of effectively preventing light from leaking by improving an aperture ratio, and a fabrication method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate; a gate line and a data line arranged vertically and laterally on the first substrate to define a pixel region; a switching element at the intersection of the gate line and data line; a black matrix formed in regions corresponding to the gate line, data line, and switching element on the 1st substrate, in which a portion of the region corresponding to the gate line is formed extending to the pixel region ; a color filter located at the pixel region of the first substrate; a pair of a common electrode and a pixel electrode located on the color filter for generating a lateral electric field within the pixel region; and a liquid crystal layer formed between the first and second substrates. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
