摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve display characteristics of wide white luminance viewing angle in the rubbing direction of a liquid crystal cell by suitably optically compensating the liquid crystal cell. <P>SOLUTION: A transparent supporting body has an Re retardation value in 10-70 nm range and an Rth retardation value in 50-400 nm range. An optically anisotropic layer has an Re retardation value in 10-100 nm range, and further inequalities (I) and (II) are satisfied, (I) 0.1<Re(40')/Re(632.8 nm)<2.0, (II) 0.1<Re(-40')/Re(632.8 nm)<1.0, wherein respective retardation values are measured with light of 632.8 nm wavelength. Re(40') and Re(-40') are Re retardation values measured by making the light of 632.8 nm wavelength incident while setting the slow axis of the optically anisotropic layer as a tilt axis with a tilt angle of &plusmn;40&deg;. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
