PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spray dryer which controls the deposition of powder on the drying chamber and the piping, produces powder at a high yield and a homogeneously mixed mixed powder. SOLUTION: The spray dryer has a drying chamber to remove the liquid from the liquid material being a solution or a dispersion of a solid, a sprayer to feed the liquid material to the drying chamber, a drying gas introducing means to introduce the drying gas to the drying chamber, a gas exhaust port opening to the drying chamber, a pipe connected with the gas exhaust port and a drying gas exhaust means equipped with a negative pressure means. The gas discharge port opens opposite to the powder discharge port. The distance between the edge of the gas exhaust port and the side wall of the drying chamber and the inside diameter of the gas exhaust port are arranged in a way that the average velocity of the drying gas passing through the plane perpendicular from the edge of the gas exhaust port to the side wall of the drying chamber and the average velocity of the exhaust gas passing through the inside of the pipe connected with the gas exhaust port satisfy a specific relationship.
