AUTOMATIC TRACKING DEVICE AND AUTOMATIC TRACKING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tracking device which can decrease sticking of a template image to a background and reduce influence of concealment by other objects and stabilize tracking.

SOLUTION: A template matching section 103 computes correlation between input image imaged with a camera 8 and a registered template image, and searches the high correlation area. A background vector estimation section 104 presumes a motion vector of the background other than the object, and a head detector 105 detects head-likeness by performing filtering. A head tracking section 106 tracks the head based on the computed correlation between the template image and the detected head-likeness. A PTZ controller 107 controls a pan, a tilt and a zoom (PTZ) operation of the camera 8 so that the tracked object must be displayed near the center of the image.
