PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly correspond to the occurrence of an abnormality of an ink ribbon without increasing a load to a control section which controls the motion of a recording device in the recording device which records an image by typing out a recording wire from a recording head through the ink ribbon. SOLUTION: A dot impact printer is equipped with a constitution that a carriage driving motor 32, a roller opening/closing motor 72, a carrying motor 73, a ribbon driving motor 74, and a gap adjusting motor 75 are driven by a motor driver 68. In the dot impact printer, a ribbon rolling up detecting section 69 which detects the abnormality of the rolling up state of the ink ribbon 51 is provided. When the abnormality occurs, the feeding of a driver driving power source P to the motor driver 68 is stopped by the ribbon rolling up detecting section 69.
