PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenation/purification catalyst composition the activity of which is prevented from being deteriorated owing to the poisoning thereof by the hydrogen sulfide or nitrogen to be generated in a hydrogenation/desulfurization reaction of light oil or owing to the agglomeration of a noble metal therein by solving the above-mentioned problems and which has high hydrogenation ability and achieves excellent results such as high desulfurization activity when used for hydrogenating/purifying light cycle oil containing a hard-to-hydrogenate/desulfurize sulfur compound such as alkyldibenzothiophene. SOLUTION: The hydrogenation/purification catalyst composition is obtained by depositing a noble metal component on ultra stable Y-type zeolite having (a) 0.1-1.0μm average particle size, (b) 80-800 SiO2/Al2O3molar ratio, (c) 24.28-24.32Åcrystal lattice constant (UD), (d)≥700 m2/g specific surface area and (e)≤0.06 wt% Na2O content.
