<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic photodiode having high sensitivity by reducing a dark current of the organic photodiode, and to provide an image sensor employing it. <P>SOLUTION: The organic photodiode comprises at least a pair of electrodes (anode 2, cathode 4), a photoelectric conversion region 3 arranged between the electrodes and mixed with at least one kind of electron donative material and at least one kind of electron acceptive material, and a carbon layer 5 interposed between the photoelectric conversion region 3 and at least one of the pair of electrodes.
