PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a difference between two or more light beam positions on a photosensitive body. SOLUTION: A pattern (1) is made up of a horizontal line pattern 30 drawn by a beam from a light source LD0 and a diagonal line pattern 31 whose angle of inclination is 45°drawn by a beam from a light source LD1. A pattern (2) is made up of a diagonal line pattern 31 whose angle of inclination is 45°drawn by a beam from the LD0 and a horizontal line pattern 30 drawn by a light beam from the LD1. The relative positions of the patterns (1) and (2) are the same when there is no dislocation between main scanning positions of beams from the LD0 and the LD1. After developing the surface of a photosensitive drum by a toner, the device detects the intensity of reflected light in the scanning center of patterns. When the detected value and the reference value are compared, a comparison output signal responding to the presence of patterns is obtained. An output waveform, since the rising intervals T01 and T10 of output waveforms vary in accordance with main scanning dislocation due to a difference in oscillation wavelength between the LD0 and the LD1 on the photosensitive drum, the device corrects the waveforms by changing the main scanning magnification.
