PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve control over ON/OFF switching of an electrooptical switch. SOLUTION: An electrooptical attenuator or switch generates a maximum attenuation level corresponding to an OFF state when a 1st control voltage or a 2nd control voltage is applied to a control input. An AC generator coupled to the control input generates a minimum peak voltage and a maximum peak voltage corresponding to the 1st control voltage and the 2nd control voltage and then the electrooptical attenuator provides the maximum attenuation level of a switched light while the minimum peak voltage or maximum peak voltage is applied to the control input. An ON state is entered by introducing a voltage pulse having a level corresponding to the minimum attenuation level. An ON voltage pulse is added to a rectangular wave. That enables the electrooptical switch to operate in a normally OFF state without requiring any DC bias voltage. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
