PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain stable motor rotation, even if the stepping motor goes out of step. SOLUTION: In starting driving of a stepping motor, a stepping motor controller 1 sequentially reads table value from a prescribed pulse table stored, in a memory 4 for through-up driving to smoothly start the rotation of the stepping motor. If a rotation position detector 8 detects that the stepping motor 7 has gone out of step at a certain table value in the prescribed pulse table, control is performed which permits constant-speed operation in a fixed section, at a table value of the prescribed pulse table prior to the occurrence of the out of step.
