PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record motion picture data without finishing in the middle of recording. SOLUTION: In a tape setting dialog box 321 on a display screen, video recording time (recording time) for video recording is inputted in a column 325 of video recording time. A video recording mode (bit rate information) is set into a column 327 of video recording mode. Then, encoding is performed with the video recording mode set in the column 327, and recording capacity (disk region) is ensured in a hard disk in recording a resultant MPEG system stream only for the video recording time set in the column 325.
